Charles Brandon was born in York Co. Pennsylvania on April 7, 1750 Old Style. This information was recorded in the family Bible, but Charles did not know what had happened to this record. He moved to South Carolina where he lived on the Pacolet River during the American Revolution. (Source: Court Records: American Revolution Pension Application) According to a Genealogy of Military Civic Achievement Chart he married Nancy Magruder probably in North Carolina. Charles and (?)Nancy had a child: Nancy Brandon b. Dec. 11, 1772 who married John King. One source (undocumented as far as I can tell) states that Charles's father was born in England and emigrated to North Carolina. I believe that Charles's father immigrated from Ireland with other Brandon family members, because of the close association of the family with other Irish immigrants. He married a Cook, whose parents, the Fulton family, came from Ireland, and he spend much time with the Chesney's who were also from Ireland. First hand knowledge of Alexander Chesney in his Journal and records show that Charles was living with his wife Sarah Cook early in 1773. They had the following children: Mary, Jane, Sarah, Catherine, and a son who may have been named Christopher. (Bedford Co. Court Records) Sarah probably died and Charles remarried. We do not know the name of his second wife. Court records state that he was married twice, so Nancy Magruder could possibly be the name of the second wife. Further research needs to be done to prove when Charles and Nancy were actually married. Charles and his second wife had the following children: Hester, Margaret, and Elias Hiatt. (Bedford Co. Court Records) Kentucky records show Charles Brandon owning land and living in Christian County KY in 1800. He later moved to Bedford Co. Tennessee.
