Dear Sir,
Complying with my promise I give below the history of our family so far as I am advised in regard to it. Most of it was given to me by the late Col. C.B.Jr. Allison of Wheeling, WV in 1868. He did it about 1875.
On your fathers side, your Great Grand parents were Charles and Mary Brandon of Middletown, Dauphin Co., PA who both died about the commencement of this century leaving six children. Issue of their marriage to wit:
1st Nancy Brandon, born 1783, married James Maguiness. She died about 1820, leaving two sons, Edmond A. and James and one daughter, Mary.
James and Mary died of consumption between the ages of 20 and 24 years. My father Edmond married first Emily McGuinnes of Carlisle, PA by whom they had 2 children, Ann Martha who married ____ and myself. Mrs. Schriebener died in June 1883 leaving 4 sons, Edmond, Charles, George and William, all unmarried and 2 daughter, Cornelia and Mary. Cornelia married Henry Middleton Esq of St. Paul and has 1 infant son, Franklin. Mrs. Schreibner who left 1 granddaughter, the child of her son, Horatio who died about ___ before ___.
I married France, daughter of ____ of Detroit, MI and have 2 daughters, Emily near 19 and Martha near 17. The Scribners and my family reside in New Albany, Indiana. My fathers 2nd wife was Liah Solomon of Wilmington, Delaware with whom he had 8 children all of which are dead except Mrs. Mary Williams of San Francisco and Mrs. Jimmie Brown of Philadelphia. These all have children but I cannot give their names or number.
2nd Julie Brandon, born March 6, 1789 died about 1870 in Wheeling, West VA. In 1818 she married Major Wm. Allison who died Nov. 2, 1825. The only issue of their marriage was Col. Wm Brandon Allison born in 1820 and died about 1875. Twice married – 1st in 1844 to ____ daughter of Dr. and Mrs. ____ of Marysville, Ohio. She died in 1848 leaving a daughter June S. who married ____ J. Hopkins of Toledo, Ohio. They had ____ children. In May 1861 Col. Allison married Mary S., daughter of the Hon. Berry Stanton formerly M. C. and ____ governor of Ohio in 1862 and 1863. There were 2 children of this marriage, Katie and Berry S. Allison. The family still resides in Wheeling.
3rd Maria Brandon, born 1788 married Matthew McClure then of Dauphin Co., PA but subsequently of Wooster, MA. She died about 1856 and her husband a few years earlier. She had 9 children as follows:
I. Col. Charles McClure of Wooster, he was twice married, 1st to Lucetta Rogers whom he had 3 children, viz Wm. H. H. McClure, ____ Addison McClure and Mathew McClure, Jr. In 1868, all living in Wooster and the last 2 were married. 2nd by his second wife, Maria McBride he had no issue.
II. Jonathon McClure who died in Wooster leaving a wife Martha McClure, formerly Martha ____. He left several children and grandchildren most of them married. The oldest, Mrs. Mary Ann Brag of Wooster who had several children. His second child was Chas. B. McClure of Wooster. His third Lucetta who married Mr. Burr of Wisconsin. He left 3 or 4 other children.
III. Wm. McClure died in Wooster about 1856, married June Rogers who died before him. He left 2 chidlren, Carolina, the wife of John H. Price, Esq. Of Bellefountaine ____ and Lucetta the wife of col. Weaver of ____ Ill. Both have children.
IV. Margaret McClure who died in Wooster. She was the wife of Hiram Shaffer and left 6 children viz. Adalaide, wife of Hon. L. J. Critchfiled of Millersberg, Ohio, formerly Atty. General of that state. They had seven children, Matilda Shaffer has been married twice and is now the wife of Mr. Ross of Wisconsin. There were 3 sons who were physicians and married whose names are forgotten. The youngest, Hiram Shaffer was single and resided in Wooster in 1868.
V. Mary McClure married Dr. Henry Smith of Wayne Co. Ohio. ____ died leaving 5 children, the oldest, Matthew Smith married and lived in Norwalk, Ohio. There is a married daughter whose names is forgotten.
VI. Matthew McClure was married in 1868 and was living near Wooster and had a large family of children.
VII. Maria McClure married Capt. Jas. B. McMillen of Wooster, Ohio who died in the service in 1863. She died in 1860 leaving 2 small children.
VIII. Henrietta McClure married Anderson Adair near Wooster. She died leaving 2 or 3 children.
IX. Jane McClure married a Mr. Burr of Wisconsin and it is thought that she had no children and that her husband and the husband of her niece Lucetta were brothers.
4th Harriet Brandon married Frederick Leopold then of Harrisburg, PA subsequently of Wooster, Ohio where he died about 1848. She died about 1865 – over 70 years of age. She had 6 children viz: Chas. Leopold who died about 1858 leaving a widow and several
children.
6th Charles Brandon born Nov 24, 1794 died Aug 7, 1866 was married to Matilda, daughter of George Murphey of Robertson Co., Tenn. She was born May 1, 1806 and died Nov. 15, 1867 and was married Oct. 22, 1822. From this union there were twelve children as follows:
I. George Murphey Brandon, b. July 19, 1824 married to Minerva Ann Evans of Marshall Co. Tenn. On Nov. 12, 1851. She died about 1858 leaving three children – William, who died without issue, Elizabeth Matilda who married Thos. E. Garrit of Lewisburg, Tenn. About 1874 and has several children; George W. Jr. who is married and living in Calvert, Texas. George M. Brandon was married a second time in 1864, Susan Thompson of Giles Co. by whom he left five chidren: James, Jennie, Mary, Susie, and David. George M. Brandon died Nov. 18, 1872.
II. Mary Eliza Brandon born March 31, 1826 married to John H. Wyatt March 28, 1849 to whom one son, Charles Thomas was born. He married Bille Soule about 1875. John H. Wyatt died, his widow married William ____ about 1872, she died a few years later leaving no children by this marriage.
III. John Hiram Brandon born Dec. 6, 1827 married to Mary M. Hill Feb. 15, 1853. To them were born five children, Charles, Green, Mary, Mattie and James. John H. Brandon died Oct. 5, 1872. His wife died about one year after.
IV. Anna Maria Brandon born June 27, 1830 married ______ L. Craig of Franklin, Tenn on July 17, 1856 to them eight children were born, Charles W, William, Sallie, James, Mary, Alvin, Nettie, and Anna Belle.
V. CHARLES LEOPOLD BRANDON born March 26, 1832 married SUSAN CHRISMAN of Gallatin, Tenn about 1857 or 8. They have four children, Charles James, Mary, and Anna.
VI. Thomas Brandon, born January 10, 1834, Died January 19, 1834.
VII. Matilda Brandon born March 8, 1835, died April 29, 1835.
VIII. James Maguinnis Brandon born Feb 25, 1836. He enlisted in the Confederate Army May 1, 1861 in Co. H, 1st Tennessee Regiment and was killed at “Dead Angle” on Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia June 27, 1864.
IX. Alexander Willburn Brandon born Dec 19, 1838 married Lou Smith of Franklin, Tenn Feb 14, 1878. They have three children, Alexander Jr., George, and Louise -live in Nashville.
X. Edmund Brandon born Feb 1st, 1841. A bachelor living alone was murdered and robbed by a negro at his home near Robertson, McClennan Co., Texas on the night of the 14th of May, 1891
XI. Henrietta Brandon born Sept 24, 1843 married David Trousdale of Maury Co., Tenn Oct 1, 1867 They had three children Charles Brandon, David William and _____ Murphey. Died Oct 15, _____.
XII. Walter Otis Brandon Jan 8, 1849 a bachelor and lieves in Clarksville, Tenn.
7th John Brandon, the youngest child - he died about 1828 in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., PA He was twice married and had 1 child by his 1st wife and 2 by his second - They all died young without issue. That collateral branch of our family is extinct.
Charles and Mary Brandon had 2 or 3 orther children, but they died young and without issue - one was a twin brother to John Brandon. Mary was a young widow when she married Charles Brandon. Her first husband was named McFarlan, by whom she had 1 child, Margaret or Peggy who married George Schouler of Middletown, PA and died about 1815 leaving 4 children, viz; Jacob, who died without issue, Polly, who first married George McClure of Middletown by whom she had 3 children, one by the name of George McClure was living in Dauphin Co., PA in 1868 - The other children of Polly are thought to be dead - When a widow, she married a Mr. Rowe but had no issue. Charles - died in California leaving a son and daughter. The latter the wife of Samul G. Karmichael of Wooster, Ohio. George - died leaving some children - he lived in Massilon, Ohio.
