"Julius Caesar established January 1 as New Year's Day in 46 B.C.
The Romans dedicated the day to Janus, the god of gates, doors, and beginnings.
The month of January was named after Janus, who had two faces-
one looking forward and the other looking backward."
Different cultures celebrate in different ways from exchanging gifts
to firing guns into the air and shouting.
People use the day to predict what will happen in the future,
and also make resolutions for changes in their own lives.
In the United States, people celebrate with parties, firecrackers,
drinking toasts, shouting "Happy New Year" and singing the song "Auld Lang Syne".
We wish that the New Year
will bring everything
that you hope and wish for.
